Arsenal make formal approach for Bouaddi as Lille demand £60m for World Cup standout
Arsenal have made a concrete approach to sign Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi after the 18-year-old impressed for Morocco at the 2026 World Cup. Lille are demanding £60.4m for the teenager, with PSG also in the race.
Arsenal have formally approached Lille over the signing of Ayyoub Bouaddi, the 18-year-old Morocco international who has emerged as one of the standout midfielders of the 2026 World Cup. Lille are demanding a €70 million (£60.4m) fee for the teenager, with further talks between the player and Arsenal scheduled for after the tournament.
Bouaddi caught the eye in Morocco’s opening 1-1 draw against Brazil, where he held his own against some of the world’s most established midfielders and was credited as the most composed ball-carrier on the pitch among the central midfielders on show. His performance accelerated what had already been a months-long pursuit by Arsenal.
According to Sky Sports Switzerland, Arsenal have maintained regular contact with Bouaddi’s entourage since January last year, with that long-term scouting mission now evolving into a formal approach. Manager Mikel Arteta is said to be a strong admirer of the teenager’s technical profile and his versatility in central midfield.
A key element of Arsenal’s pitch is the promise of immediate first-team involvement. The club has made clear to Bouaddi and his representatives that he would be considered an important part of Arteta’s squad from the outset, rather than a development signing. That message is reported to have resonated with the player, who has expressed genuine interest in a move to north London.
Arsenal are not alone in their pursuit. Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a move for Bouaddi, though Lille’s reluctance to sell to a direct Ligue 1 rival could give the Premier League champions a meaningful advantage in negotiations.
Lille, aware that Bouaddi’s value may continue to rise as Morocco progress through the tournament in North America, are in no hurry to accept a reduced fee. The French club’s firm £60.4m valuation sets up what could become one of the summer’s most competitive transfer battles.
