Arsenal lead Morgan Rogers pursuit but face fierce competition from United and PSG
Arsenal believe they are best placed to sign Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers this summer, with Mikel Arteta identifying the England midfielder as a priority target. However, Manchester United, PSG, Bayern Munich and Chelsea are all expected to compete for his signature.
Arsenal consider themselves the frontrunners to sign Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers this summer, though Mikel Arteta’s side will face stiff competition from Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Chelsea for one of the most sought-after players on the market.
Arteta has made Rogers a central part of his summer transfer plans, according to Mirror Sport, and has urged the Arsenal hierarchy to move quickly after delivering that message directly to the club’s leadership following their Champions League final defeat to PSG. The Arsenal manager is drawn to Rogers’ ability to operate as a No.10 and wide left — a position the club are keen to strengthen — as well as his capacity to play multiple roles across the front line.
Aston Villa have no desire to sell. The Birmingham club secured Champions League football for next season and regard Rogers as integral to their ambitions. A sell-on clause inserted when Rogers joined Villa from Middlesbrough in January 2024 complicates any potential deal further, as Villa would seek to maximise their profit margin, likely pushing any fee well above £80 million.
Despite those obstacles, Arsenal believe their status as Premier League champions — their first title in 22 years — makes them the most attractive destination for Rogers and gives them an edge over rival suitors.
Rogers has developed rapidly since arriving at Villa Park, establishing himself as a regular in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad and entering a direct competition with Jude Bellingham for the starting No.10 role at the upcoming World Cup. England open their campaign against Croatia on 17 June, with Tuchel understood to be a strong admirer of Rogers’ quality, game intelligence and physicality.
Arteta’s preference for versatile, high-intensity players fits Rogers’ profile closely, and Arsenal view the 22-year-old as the kind of transformative signing that could reinforce their title-winning squad for a sustained challenge on multiple fronts. How hard Villa resist any approach — and whether Rogers himself pushes for a move — will determine whether Arsenal’s pole position translates into a completed transfer.
