Arne Slot bids farewell to Liverpool fans in open letter after sacking
Arne Slot has addressed Liverpool supporters directly following his departure as manager, reflecting on the Premier League title win, the tragedy involving Diogo Jota, and the bond he formed with the club and its fanbase during his single season in charge.
Arne Slot has written an open letter to Liverpool supporters after being sacked as manager, paying tribute to the club’s fanbase, his players and staff, and acknowledging the profound events that defined his solitary season at Anfield.
Slot guided Liverpool to their 20th league title in his first season in charge — a feat he described as “beyond special” — but his tenure ended shortly after, with the letter marking his formal farewell to the club and its supporters.
“That all of those emotions would culminate in a Premier League title after just 12 months was beyond special,” Slot wrote. “It was not only a trophy, but a reward for the hard work, sacrifice and commitment shown by so many people throughout the club.”
The Dutchman also addressed the tragedy that overshadowed the end of his time at the club — the death of Diogo Jota. “More than anything, I want to remember a team-mate, a friend and an incredible human being who touched the lives of thousands of you every time he wore this club’s famous crest,” he wrote. “The love, compassion and support shown by the Liverpool family was extraordinary.”
Slot also referenced the incident on Water Street during the title celebrations, expressing that his thoughts remain with those affected and praising the city’s “spirit of compassion and unity.”
In his closing remarks, Slot thanked the players, backroom staff, club hierarchy, and the supporters who welcomed him from the outset. “You made me feel welcome from the start and helped me on the path. That is something I cherish,” he wrote.
“Liverpool’s 20th league title belongs to all of us,” Slot added, “and it will remain an important chapter in its history.”
Slot’s departure brings to a close a turbulent but trophy-laden spell at Anfield, one defined as much by grief and adversity as by the title success that arrived in his very first campaign.
