Amazon docuseries to chart Guardiola's emotional farewell and Man City's era-ending rebuild
A four-part behind-the-scenes docuseries covering Pep Guardiola's final two seasons at Manchester City — including the departures of Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and John Stones — is set to arrive on Amazon Prime this summer.
A four-part documentary series charting Pep Guardiola’s departure from Manchester City, along with the exits of Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and John Stones, is set to be released on Amazon Prime this summer, with no definitive date confirmed but an expected launch within the coming weeks.
The series covers the club’s last two seasons, opening as City’s record-breaking 26-game unbeaten run collapsed under a string of defeats in late 2024 — a sequence that left Guardiola visibly shaken. From there, the documentary moves into the boardroom as the club began a major rebuild, capturing De Bruyne’s emotional exit and the arrival of new talent before culminating in last season’s FA Cup final and Guardiola’s farewell.
The project is directed by Academy Award and BAFTA-winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald alongside City Studios’ John De Caux. It is produced by Macdonald for Plan B/KM Films, and by Gavin Johnson and Ged Doherty for City Studios.
Gavin Johnson, Media Director at City Football Group, said the series “surpasses the scale of other documentaries we’ve done before” and credited the embedded City Studios crew for building the trust with players, staff, and executives that made the access possible. “We hope Manchester City fans and sports documentary enthusiasts enjoy the series,” he added.
The documentary arrives after a turbulent 2024-25 Premier League campaign for City, who nonetheless secured a domestic cup double before Guardiola brought his near-decade-long tenure at the club to a close. The series represents the most expansive behind-the-scenes project City have undertaken, with the involvement of a filmmaker of Macdonald’s profile marking a step up in production ambition for City Studios.
