Aguerd could leave OM this summer for just €15 million
Signed for €23 million last summer, Nayef Aguerd is already on his way out. A clause would allow OM to sell him for €15 million this summer, while the Moroccan defender recovers from groin surgery.
Nayef Aguerd could leave Olympique de Marseille as early as the next summer transfer window, less than a year after his arrival. According to Foot Mercato, an offer of €15 million would be enough to convince the OM board to part with him, representing a loss of nearly €8 million on a player signed for approximately €23 million last summer.
The Moroccan centre-back is going through a difficult period. Injured in the groin during the Africa Cup of Nations, he had to undergo surgery this winter, which also cost him a place in the Moroccan squad for the World Cup. To date, Aguerd still does not know when he will be able to play without pain or apprehension.
On the sporting front, his first season at Marseille has not lived up to expectations. Signed to be the defensive leader, the Lion of the Atlas has delivered performances judged as average, reflecting a Marseille collective falling short of its ambitions.
His future now raises a complex financial question. Under contract until June 2030 and earning €4.80 million annually, Aguerd would be in a strong position in any negotiation for a contract extension or salary increase. If OM sought to keep him despite the existence of this departure clause, the defender could demand a doubling of his salary, which would significantly increase the bill for the club.
