After Endrick, Lyon targets another Real Madrid loan with Mastantuono
Real Madrid are considering loaning out Franco Mastantuono, 18, this summer after the Argentine failed to establish himself in Madrid. Lyon, buoyed by the success of Endrick's loan spell, are the favourites to welcome the attacking midfielder.
Olympique Lyonnais could replicate the Endrick operation by welcoming another Real Madrid talent: Franco Mastantuono. According to Spanish daily AS, Madrid’s board have decided to loan out the 18-year-old Argentine attacking midfielder this summer, signed for €45 million but unable to impose himself at the Bernabéu this season.
The Endrick precedent clearly works in favour of this scenario. Arriving on loan at Lyon in January, the young Brazilian striker transformed his spell in the Rhône valley into a genuine springboard: 8 goals and 8 assists in 21 appearances, statistics that convinced Carlo Ancelotti to call him up for the 2026 World Cup. A record that both clubs have not forgotten.
Good relations between Lyon and Real Madrid would facilitate negotiations. The Lyon club would benefit from a trust capital with the Merengue, who were able to see first-hand the environment offered to their young players lacking playing time.
Mastantuono, developed at River Plate where he established himself as one of South America’s best young talents, has the profile of a technical and unpredictable left winger. At 18, a full season at a club potentially qualified for the Ligue des Champions would represent a logical step in his progression, where Madrid cannot guarantee him regular playing time.
Nothing is yet official, and the deal depends notably on Lyon’s European qualification at the end of the season. But the conditions seem to be in place for this loan to take shape, provided the two clubs agree on the terms of an agreement that, on paper, would satisfy all parties.
