2026 World Cup: France, Argentina, United States among six teams already qualified
After two group-stage matches, six nations have already secured their place in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, while Haiti, Turkey, Tunisia and Jordan are already eliminated.
Six teams are assured of playing in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, and four others are definitively eliminated, even before the completion of the second day of the group stage.
France and Norway joined the qualified clubs in the night of Monday to Tuesday. The Blues dominated Iraq 3-0 in Group I, while the Norwegians won 3-2 against Senegal. With six points each and a perfect record, the two teams cannot be caught and will face off on Friday in Boston to dispute first place in the group.
They follow Mexico (Group A), the United States (Group D), Germany (Group E) and Argentina (Group J), who had also won their first two matches. Colombia (Group K) can also join this circle as soon as Tuesday evening, as can England or Ghana (Group L), who face each other later in the day.
On the eliminated side, the picture is clear for four nations. Haiti (Group C) cannot avoid a group exit behind Brazil, Morocco and Scotland. Turkey (Group D), humiliated in its first two outings, leaves the tournament as one of the great disappointments of this North American World Cup. Tunisia (Group F) and Jordan (Group J) share the same fate, both beaten twice with no possibility of recovery.
The second day continues on Tuesday with notably Portugal-Uzbekistan at 7 p.m. and England-Ghana at 10 p.m., two matches that could still reshuffle the cards in several groups.
