Yoro earns 7/10 on France debut as United weigh start against Spurs
Leny Yoro impressed on his senior France debut, earning a 7/10 from L'Equipe as Zinedine Zidane's side beat Belgium 4-1 in the Nations League — well above the team's average rating of 4.5.
Leny Yoro marked his senior France debut with a composed full-90-minute display as Zinedine Zidane’s side beat Belgium 4-1 in the Nations League on Monday in Saint-Denis, earning the Manchester United centre-back a 7/10 rating from French publication L’Equipe — well above the team’s average score of 4.5.
Yoro, 20, was named in the starting XI alongside Chelsea’s Maxence Lacroix at centre-back, having been an unused substitute in France’s previous three Nations League fixtures during the break. Goals from Desire Doue, Rayan Cherki, and a Michael Olise brace sealed a convincing win for the hosts.
The L’Equipe rating underlines how Yoro stood out even within a team that put four past Belgium, and the performance is likely to sharpen debate around his role at club level. United manager Michael Carrick has yet to hand Yoro a Premier League start despite the defender making four appearances this season, two of them in the top flight.
Yoro will return to Carrington in the coming days for a fitness assessment ahead of United’s Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday. United have not won a league match since beating Ipswich Town 5-2 on August 30, adding urgency to the selection decisions Carrick must make.
Whether Yoro’s assured showing for France translates into a first league start against Spurs remains to be seen, but his debut display gives Carrick concrete evidence to consider.
