Walid Regragui has officially begun a transition to consulting following his departure from the Moroccan national team, announced in early March 2025. The former Morocco coach, 50, has joined a team of consultants to cover European nights and Premier League matchdays.

Regragui left his post following the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, won on the pitch by Senegal (1-0 after extra time) but ultimately awarded to Morocco by the CAF. Since that decision, the future of the Corbeil-Essonnes native had fueled much speculation: several national teams, Middle Eastern clubs, and even Real Madrid — before José Mourinho’s appointment — had been mentioned as potential destinations.

None of those leads materialized. Regragui therefore chose to turn to the media while awaiting a new opportunity on the sidelines. His transition was made official at a press conference on Wednesday.

A former defender who played notably for Toulouse, Bordeaux, and Villarreal, Regragui led Morocco to a historic semi-final at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, a first for an African nation. He subsequently guided the Lions of the Atlas to victory at the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, a title tainted by controversy surrounding the CAF’s decision.
