Volkanovski KOs undefeated Evloev to break Aldo's record for most UFC featherweight title wins

Alexander Volkanovski knocked out the undefeated Movsar Evloev in the second round of the UFC 333 main event at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, breaking a tie with Jose Aldo for the most featherweight title wins in UFC history with nine.

Evloev entered the cage with a perfect 10-0 record inside the UFC, but his unblemished run counted for little against a champion of Volkanovski’s calibre. The Australian neutralised Evloev’s grappling attempts throughout, keeping the fight standing before battering him with strikes and finishing the contest in the second round.

The victory marked Volkanovski’s second successful title defence in his second reign as champion, and his seventh overall. No featherweight in UFC history has now won the title more times than “The Great.”

Reaction from the MMA community was swift and emphatic. Former fighter and analyst Kenny Florian captured the mood succinctly: “There are levels to this game and the old lion is still hungry.”

The win cements Volkanovski’s standing as the defining figure of the UFC featherweight division, having now outlasted challengers, comebacks, and the weight of his own legacy to set a record that may stand for years.
