Max Verstappen has committed his future to Red Bull until the end of 2030, signing a new long-term contract that ends months of paddock speculation about whether the four-time world champion would remain with the Milton Keynes outfit. The deal arrives at a pivotal moment for the team, which has undergone significant upheaval in recent years.

F1 TV analyst Alex Brundle, speaking at Zandvoort, was quick to frame the signing as a meaningful endorsement of Laurent Mekies, who stepped up to the team principal role from Christian Horner in July 2025. “It’s a pretty important vindication, isn’t it, of Red Bull under Mekies from Max Verstappen,” Brundle said. “With everything that’s been going on at Red Bull, a bit of a brain drain over the last couple of years, losing personnel and all of the rest, it couldn’t have gone much better for Laurent Mekies and the team.”

Red Bull has navigated a turbulent period marked by a string of personnel departures, making Verstappen’s decision to stay all the more significant for the team’s stability and direction.

Verstappen himself struck a relaxed tone when addressing the media at Thursday’s press conference in Zandvoort, describing the process as straightforward and the atmosphere within the team as a key factor in his decision. “It wasn’t really too stressful,” he said. “It was the right call. I feel really good within the team. We have a lot of belief that we can get back to the top in the coming years.”

The Dutchman also spoke about the culture Mekies has cultivated since taking charge, emphasising the openness of communication as central to his confidence in the project. “For me, this feels like one big family, so I’m just very happy to be a part of that,” Verstappen added. “Over the last few months, you talk about the team moving forward in the coming years, plans, ideas. It’s always been communicated to me in a very open way, and that’s what I like. I like what they’re trying to achieve, and that’s why I also want to be part of it in the future.”

The extension represents a significant vote of confidence not just in Red Bull’s immediate competitiveness, but in the long-term vision being shaped under Mekies’ leadership as the team looks to recapture the dominance it enjoyed during Verstappen’s title-winning years.
