VAR rules out Heggem's goal for Haaland foul as England and Norway level at half-time
Norway had a second-half goal disallowed in their World Cup quarter-final against England in Miami after VAR spotted a foul by Erling Haaland. The match was level at 1-1 at the time, with Jude Bellingham's stoppage-time equaliser cancelling out Andreas Schjelderup's opener.
Norway had a goal ruled out early in the second half of their World Cup 2026 quarter-final against England in Miami after VAR identified a foul by Erling Haaland in the build-up. Torbjørn Heggem had put the ball in the net from close range following a corner, only for referee Clément Turpin to be sent to the pitchside monitor before overturning the decision.
The match had been level at 1-1 heading into the second half. Norway broke the deadlock in the first half through a long-range strike from Andreas Schjelderup, but England responded before the break when Jude Bellingham converted an equaliser in first-half stoppage time.
The disallowed goal came under a VAR process in which the on-field decision — a goal — was reviewed and the referee recommended to check the monitor himself, ultimately reversing the call on the basis of Haaland’s foul in the lead-up to the corner.
A place in the World Cup semi-final is at stake, with the winner of the Miami tie advancing to the last four of the tournament.
