Keane condemns England's 'sloppy' first half after Schjelderup fluke puts Norway ahead in World Cup quarter-final
Roy Keane criticised England's concentration lapses at half-time of their World Cup 2026 quarter-final against Norway, after Andreas Schjelderup's mishit cross flew into the top corner to give Norway the lead. Jude Bellingham equalised with his fifth goal of the tournament.
Roy Keane delivered a sharp half-time verdict on England’s World Cup 2026 quarter-final against Norway, accusing the side of losing focus after Andreas Schjelderup’s mishit cross deflected off the post and into the top corner of Jordan Pickford’s net to put Norway ahead.
The goal arrived after a relatively quiet opening 35 minutes and left England with questions to answer. Keane, speaking as an ITV pundit alongside his fellow analysts, did not hold back. “We’ve seen the best and worst of England there today in that first half,” he said. “They got sloppy, lost concentration. They gave Norway a bit of encouragement.”
England were aggrieved in the build-up to the goal, with Harry Kane appearing to be fouled before the move developed, but the referee allowed play to continue and the goal stood.
Jude Bellingham provided the response England needed, equalising to bring the score level and registering his fifth goal of the tournament — a tally that underlines his status as one of the standout performers at the World Cup.
