United close in on Nmecha as teenage Colombian 'next Caicedo' arrives for medical
Manchester United have made contact with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, whose £75.5m buyout clause has not deterred the club, while Colombian prospect Cristian Orozco has flown to Manchester ahead of his 18th birthday to begin his medical.
Manchester United are pursuing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, with reports in Germany claiming the club have made contact over a deal that would require triggering a £75.5 million buyout clause. The 25-year-old Germany international has attracted interest from multiple clubs following an impressive summer with the national team, but United are said to be pushing to beat the competition.
Nmecha has four years remaining on his Dortmund contract, a factor that has not deterred United manager Michael Carrick, who is looking to reshape his midfield following Casemiro’s departure at the end of his contract. Newcastle United are also reportedly interested, though they are said to be seeking a reduction on the asking price — a hesitation that could open the door for United to move decisively.
The German-born midfielder is currently focused on the World Cup, where Germany face Paraguay in the last 32 after topping Group E. He is the younger brother of Leeds United forward Lukas Nmecha.
Separately, United have brought Colombian teenage midfielder Cristian Orozco to Manchester this weekend alongside chief scout Giuseppe Antonaccio to begin his acclimatisation and undergo a medical. United agreed terms with Fortaleza CEIF for the starlet last September but must wait until 13 July — his 18th birthday — to officially register him.
Orozco, whose style has drawn comparisons to Chelsea’s Moïses Caicedo, is expected to slot into United’s under-21 setup initially. However, with United competing in the Champions League next season, Carrick may rotate his squad heavily in domestic cup competitions, leaving a potential pathway to first-team minutes earlier than anticipated.
United are also reportedly in a battle with Tottenham for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, while Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Brazilian midfielder Ederson is said to be close to completing a switch from Atalanta. On the outgoing side, goalkeeper Andre Onana looks set to extend his loan at Trabzonspor, with the Turkish club covering his wages and paying a loan fee.
