Tylel Tati undergoes meniscus surgery, Nantes without defender for three months
Stretchered off during a match with the French U19 side, Nantes defender Tylel Tati will undergo meniscus surgery. The 19-year-old is not expected to return to action before January, a further blow for an already struggling FC Nantes.
FC Nantes will be without Tylel Tati for approximately three months. The young defender, injured at the knee during a match with the France U19 team, will undergo meniscus surgery and is not expected to return to the pitch before January.
Tati was stretchered off during the youth international break. The verdict, confirmed Friday by L’Équipe and Ouest-France, comes at the worst possible time for manager Grégory Poirier, who arrived mid-season following Michel Der Zakarian’s dismissal on matchday three. The international break was supposed to allow him to prepare for the rest of the campaign; he will now have to do so without one of his defensive options.
For Tati himself, the injury interrupts an already turbulent trajectory. A revelation in the first half of last season in Ligue 1, the defender trained at Roissy-en-Brie had attracted the interest of Chelsea, who made a €30 million offer in January. What followed was less brilliant: his playing time dried up in the second half of the championship, and in Ligue 2 this season, he had featured only in the first two matchdays before losing his place after a costly error at Laval.
Forced to manage without him until January, Nantes will have to handle this absence in a tense sporting and institutional context, with the club sale issue also dominating the Canaries’ agenda.
