Marseille Honoured for Amputee Football Programme Launched in January 2025
Olympique de Marseille received the Sport & Health Trophy at the 13th edition of the Sport & Management Awards on Wednesday evening for its « OM Foot Amputés » initiative, which enables amputee players to represent the club's colours.
Olympique de Marseille claimed the Sport & Health Trophy at the 13th edition of the Sport & Management Awards on Wednesday evening for its « OM Foot Amputés » initiative launched in January 2025. Club president Stéphane Richard was present to receive the honour.
This annual event aims to highlight « the vitality, boldness and creativity of project leaders » in the world of sport, and awarded ten trophies in total at this edition.
The « OM Foot Amputés » project aims to enable players who have undergone amputation to wear the colours of a major professional club. On its website, Marseille describes it as an « inclusive project that shows that in Marseille, football is lived without limits ». Former club professional Romain Alessandrini is its patron.
This award comes in a tense sporting and institutional context for the Phocaean club. After a turbulent 2024-2025 season, Marseille approached the summer transfer window with a market focused exclusively on sales and the arrival of Bruno Genesio as new head coach, with no outfield player signings.
The Marseille club had not won a sporting trophy since the Coupe de la Ligue in 2012. The one awarded on Wednesday falls into a different category entirely, but illustrates the club’s commitment to disability sport and inclusion.
Marseille was not the only Ligue 1 representative at the ceremony: Paris FC received the « Professional Sport Actors » trophy for the creation of the « VINCI Mixed Cup », a mixed European competition for U15 players aimed at promoting equal opportunities.
