Trophy-winning Glasner leaves Crystal Palace to take charge at Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest have appointed Oliver Glasner as head coach after the Austrian guided Crystal Palace to the FA Cup, Community Shield and Conference League in a remarkable 2024-25 season. He replaces Vitor Pereira ahead of a Premier League opener against Leeds on 22 August.
Nottingham Forest have appointed Oliver Glasner as their new head coach, the club confirmed, with the 51-year-old Austrian joining from Crystal Palace days after his contract at Selhurst Park expired. He replaces Vitor Pereira.
Glasner arrives carrying arguably the most decorated CV of any manager in English football right now. In 2024-25 alone he delivered Palace their first major trophy — the FA Cup — followed by the Community Shield and, in May, the Conference League. Before his time in south London, he led Eintracht Frankfurt to the 2021-22 Europa League title, their first major European honour in more than four decades.
Despite those achievements, Glasner informed Palace of his desire to leave early in the 2025-26 season and made a public statement about his future in January. Palace ultimately finished 15th in the Premier League, one point and one place above Forest.
“I’m delighted to join Nottingham Forest as head coach,” Glasner said. “From my very first conversations with the owner and the leadership team, it was evident to me that they have a clear vision for this football club and complete trust and belief in me and my staff to build a strong future together over the long term.”
He cited the squad’s potential and the club’s ambition as decisive factors in his decision. “That trust and shared commitment, together with the potential that I see within the squad, were key factors for me and I am excited about what we can achieve together.”
Glasner also paid tribute to Forest’s European pedigree — the club are two-time European Cup winners — and outlined his long-term intentions. “Our aim is to build a team that can help take the club to the next level in the years ahead and that our supporters can be proud of.”
His first competitive match in charge will be a home Premier League fixture against Leeds on 22 August.
