Henderson hospitalized after fall celebrating England's World Cup qualification
England qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup after beating Mexico, but the evening was marred by Jordan Henderson's wrist injury. The 36-year-old midfielder was hospitalized after falling during post-match celebrations.
Jordan Henderson spent the night from Sunday to Monday in hospital after suffering a wrist injury during celebrations following England’s victory over Mexico in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
The Three Lions had accomplished the essential: eliminating El Tri despite Jarell Quansah’s red card before the hour mark, securing a place in the quarter-finals. England had previously finished top of their group ahead of Ghana, Croatia and Panama, then eliminated the Democratic Republic of Congo in the previous round.
But during celebrations with supporters, the 36-year-old midfielder attempted to climb over an advertising board and landed badly on his wrist. The Brentford player was immediately attended to by the medical staff before being evacuated to hospital for further examination.
At a press conference, manager Thomas Tuchel did not downplay the situation. “It’s not good. Jordan injured his wrist, he went to hospital, it’s quite a serious injury. It doesn’t match this evening. I don’t know if there will be surgery,” he said.
Henderson’s availability for the quarter-finals remains uncertain, and England now awaits the results of the examinations to determine the extent of the damage.
