Transfer Market: Naples and Tottenham Battle for Amine Gouiri at €28M

Olympique de Marseille could lose a second major striker before the transfer market closes on September 1st. Following an agreement between Igor Paixao and Sunderland, it is now Amine Gouiri who has caught the eye of both Naples and Tottenham, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Algerian international has established himself as one of the key pieces in Bruno Genesio’s system, which seriously complicates any departure. Under contract until 2029, Gouiri is valued at 28 million euros by Transfermarkt. Naples, who are also targeting Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, will therefore need to make a substantial offer to convince Marseille’s management to part with their leading striker.

OM is experiencing a particularly turbulent end to the transfer window. The Marseille board, forced to sell to preserve the club’s financial balance, has already registered the departures of Mason Greenwood, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Facundo Medina and Geronimo Rulli. Igor Paixao, valued at 35 million euros, is also set to leave for Sunderland.

While financial pressure is pushing OM to sell important players, Genesio has no intention of being stripped of his striker without a fight. No agreement has been reached regarding Gouiri so far, and the coming days promise to be decisive before the market closes.
