Tottenham target James Trafford as first-choice goalkeeper with Vicario set to leave
Tottenham Hotspur are pursuing England international James Trafford as their new first-choice goalkeeper, with Guglielmo Vicario expected to depart and Martin Dubravka already signed as back-up cover.
Tottenham Hotspur are pushing for a deal to sign James Trafford from Manchester City as they overhaul their goalkeeping options this summer, with first-choice Guglielmo Vicario set to leave the club.
Trafford, 23, only joined Manchester City last summer but immediately found himself second choice to Gianluigi Donnarumma at the Etihad. The subsequent arrival of Enzo Maresca has further complicated his path to regular football, making a move away an attractive prospect for the England international.
Spurs have already moved to address their goalkeeping situation, signing Martin Dubravka last week as a back-up option. Trafford, however, is earmarked for a more prominent role — intended to bring authority and a long-term solution to the position under head coach Roberto De Zerbi.
While Tottenham retain hopes that Antonin Kinsky can develop into a reliable option, the club’s interest in Trafford signals that they are not relying on that prospect alone.
Trafford is currently part of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad at the 2026 World Cup, giving him a high-profile stage as negotiations over his club future continue in the background.
