Téji Savanier will no longer wear a Montpellier shirt. The 34-year-old attacking midfielder confirmed on Wednesday via Instagram the end of his adventure at MHSC, six years after joining the Hérault club in 2019.

“July 1st. Last night, at midnight, something came to an end,” he wrote in the opening of a lengthy message posted the day after his contract expired. The player evoked “years of my life, hundreds of matches, thousands of moments” spent in orange and blue, praising a crowd “that never let go” and a dressing room described as “a family.”

Savanier, however, wants to dispel any ambiguity about what comes next: he is not hanging up his boots. “My body is here. My desire is here. Complete. Intact,” he assures, before adding: “I still have so much to give. I still want so much to play at the highest level, to experience those emotions that only football can provide.”

A major figure at the club since his arrival from Nîmes, Savanier was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year in 2022. He ends his spell at Montpellier in a difficult sporting context: MHSC was relegated to Ligue 2 at the end of the 2024-2025 season, which makes his departure all the more logical given his stated ambitions.

“A page turns. But the story continues. Thank you for everything, Montpellier. From the bottom of my heart,” he concludes. His next destination has not yet been announced.
