Tottenham seal Omar Marmoush loan from Man City with £60m permanent obligation

Tottenham Hotspur have secured Omar Marmoush on a season-long loan from Manchester City, with an obligation to sign the Egyptian forward permanently for £60m next summer — completing a double raid on City in the space of two days.

Marmoush, 27, becomes Roberto De Zerbi’s eighth signing of a transformative summer window in which the Spurs head coach has been backed with more than £300m to rebuild the squad following his arrival in March. Savio joined from City on Tuesday in a deal worth £85m in total, and Marmoush’s arrival wraps up back-to-back business with the Premier League champions.

“It feels amazing to be here,” Marmoush said on completing the move. “I’m so excited to get started with the team and I can’t wait to meet the fans. Tottenham Hotspur is one of the biggest clubs in England, if not the world, and the project was very attractive to me. I’ve spoken with the head coach, I loved what he had to say and I’m sure our passion for the game will go very well together.”

De Zerbi was equally enthusiastic about the addition. “Omar is exactly the kind of player we want at this club — ambitious, hungry and determined to make a difference,” the Italian said. “He has incredible attacking quality but what I also love is his desire to improve and to win. He brings pace, intelligence and a real threat in front of goal, and I believe he can take our attacking play to another level.”

Marmoush had been on Tottenham’s radar for some time, with the club monitoring him during Ange Postecoglou’s tenure before he ultimately chose to join City in early 2025 following a prolific spell at Eintracht Frankfurt. Over 18 months at Frankfurt, the versatile attacker scored 37 goals and contributed 20 assists, earning a £59m move to the Etihad.

His time at City, however, was hampered by limited opportunities as backup to Erling Haaland. Despite a hat-trick against Newcastle on his fifth appearance, Marmoush managed 16 goals in 62 outings before the two parties agreed to part ways.

Prior to his breakthrough at Frankfurt, Marmoush had loan spells at Stuttgart and St Pauli before a productive stint at Wolfsburg, where he played alongside current Spurs team-mate Micky van de Ven.

The permanent fee is structured as £50m plus up to £10m in add-ons. It is understood that Manchester City have already settled their financial obligations to Frankfurt, and no sell-on clause was included when City originally purchased Marmoush. The deal addresses a pressing need for Tottenham, who head into the new season with a shortage of fully fit attacking options.
