Torres calls for Pedri to join PSG after seven goals in six matches on debut

Ferran Torres scored his seventh goal in six matches wearing a PSG shirt on Sunday, heading decisively past Olympique de Marseille just minutes after coming on as a substitute for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Spanish striker, brilliantly set up by Désiré Doué at the edge of the box, placed the ball under the crossbar with an unstoppable header.

These figures allow him to follow in the footsteps of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, until now the only player to have enjoyed such a prolific start at the Paris club. Questioned on Monday on the Spanish TV show El Hormiguero after joining the national team, Torres explained the reasons for his successful integration. “I’m adapting well because ultimately, we footballers depend a lot on what happens on the pitch. And when you have a good level, problems outside the pitch diminish.”

The sole goalscorer in the last World Cup final acknowledged, however, that he had been going through a complicated week on a personal level. “This week has been very difficult because I’m in the middle of moving, I have to bring a lot of things from Barcelona,” he confided, before adding with a smile that a former teammate was particularly missed. “The only thing I couldn’t bring with me is Pedri. I already miss him a lot.”

Barcelona midfielder Pedri, one of the most coveted players in Europe, is under contract with FC Barcelona. Torres, for his part, left the Catalan club this summer to join PSG under Luis Enrique, who had left him on the bench at the start of the Clásico before seeing him turn the match around.
