Rashford, Sesko and Mainoo all withdrawn from international squads with injuries ahead of Tottenham clash

Manchester United are monitoring three injury concerns during the international break after Marcus Rashford, Benjamin Sesko and Kobbie Mainoo were all withdrawn from their respective national squads, with the Premier League home fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on October 10 identified as the target return date for each player.

The developments follow United’s 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday, a result that left manager Michael Carrick already short of options. Rashford hobbled off in the closing stages of that match, prompting his withdrawal from the England squad. Carrick offered little clarity on the severity of the issue post-match. “We had to bring him off as he had a bit of an issue,” he told beIN Sports, and when asked whether Rashford was okay, replied simply: “I’m not sure.”

Sesko’s absence was confirmed by United on Monday, with the Slovenian forward also ruled out of his country’s upcoming fixtures. In a statement, Sesko said: “I am very sorry that I will have to miss the next matches of the national team. I have always played for Slovenia and will always play with heart and pride. Now the most important thing is to fully dedicate myself to recovery. I am already working on getting back on the field as soon as possible and helping the national team and the club again.”

Mainoo was also substituted late on against Fulham and is believed to be carrying a knock, leading to his withdrawal from the England squad alongside Rashford. The three-week break may work in United’s favour, giving all three players additional time to recover before competitive action resumes.

Not all the injury news from the weekend was negative. Luke Shaw returned to the starting line-up at Craven Cottage, while summer signing Carlos Baleba was named among the substitutes — still awaiting his debut following his transfer from Brighton.

United will hope the extended break allows their squad to regroup before the visit of Tottenham, which now looms as a significant early test of Carrick’s rebuilt side.
