Toko-Ekambi in talks with OM to bolster depleted attack

Karl Toko-Ekambi could join Olympique de Marseille in the coming days, despite the official closure of the summer transfer window. According to L’Équipe, the Cameroonian striker has already been in direct contact with the Marseille staff and appears enthusiastic about returning to Ligue 1.

Marseille’s summer was marked by the departures of Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as well as Quinten Timber, sold to Crystal Palace in the final hours of the transfer window. Lacking sufficient financial resources, no reinforcements could be recruited to compensate for these losses. “There will be no signings. We need two or three more departures to possibly bring in one or two recruits. By Tuesday, it seems complicated. I have to adapt to the squad we have,” Bruno Genesio acknowledged after Sunday’s defeat to Monaco.

According to the same sources, the striker would be willing to accept a modest salary to facilitate his arrival in Marseille.

Genesio knows the player’s profile well, having managed him at Olympique Lyonnais. Capable of playing on the left wing or as a striker, the 32-year-old Cameroonian would bring versatility and immediately usable experience. Having played for Angers, Villarreal and Lyon before a spell in Qatar, he represents a credible option to bolster an attacking sector reduced to its bare minimum.

No final agreement has yet been formalized, but the deal could be concluded quickly.
