Darren Till and Yoel Romero went eye-to-eye for a full minute at Thursday’s BKFC 94 face-off in Manchester, a charged preview of their bare-knuckle main event at the AO Arena on Saturday night. The staredown ended only when Till extended his hand to shake Romero’s, breaking the silence himself.

The moment echoed — though fell short of — the pair’s now-famous August press conference face-off, in which the two veteran fighters held their ground for nearly four minutes in a clip that spread widely across social media.

Till reflected on that original encounter in a recent interview with MMA Fighting, explaining that neither man was willing to be the first to look away. “I think it just got to that point where no one’s turning away,” he said. “I don’t go off faceoff energy and stuff like that but he broke character first, he was speaking to me and stuff like that and chewing his gum real hard. I was just on my own thing.”

The former UFC middleweight contender was candid about the psychological dimension of facing Romero, a two-time UFC middleweight title challenger known for his explosive power and intimidating presence. “I’m not going to turn away. I’m going to show you exactly what I’m here to do to you as much as you are to do to me,” Till added. “All that stuff ‘I’m scared of you.’ Well look now, who’s scared? I enjoyed it as well. He is a scary guy.”

Both fighters arrive at BKFC 94 with extensive MMA pedigrees. Till built his reputation in the UFC welterweight and middleweight divisions, while Romero, now 47, remains one of the most physically imposing fighters of his generation.
