Olympique de Marseille are approaching one of the most demanding sequences of their fixture list in a position of weakness: one win, two defeats and tenth place in Ligue 1 after three games.

The tally worsened on Wednesday evening at the Vélodrome, where Paris FC won 3-2. Previously, the Marseille club had already lost to Monaco (2-0) on 30 August, after an encouraging start against Strasbourg (4-0). Bruno Genesio made no signings during the summer transfer window, and the gaps in the squad are evident in the content of the matches.

What comes next will intensify the pressure. On Friday, OM travel to Roazhon Park to face Stade Rennais. Nine days later, they host Paris Saint-Germain to close out the fifth matchday. Between these two fixtures, a trip to Turkey to face Besiktas in Europa League is scheduled, a match for which Genesio is expected to rotate his squad.

If results do not turn around, Marseille could approach the international break with just three points on the board, meaning four consecutive league defeats. A scenario that would place the club in an unprecedented and precarious situation for the rest of the season.
