Leeds United have paid tribute to long-standing season ticket holder Colin Westby, 68, who suffered a medical emergency during the 1-1 Premier League draw with Manchester United at Elland Road on 18 October and died after life support was withdrawn.
Leeds United are mourning the death of supporter Colin Westby, 68, who suffered a medical emergency in the stands during their Premier League draw with Manchester United at Elland Road on Sunday, 18 October, and passed away after life support was withdrawn.
Westby, a season ticket holder of more than 50 years, was rushed to hospital following the incident and placed in a medically induced coma. Leeds said in a statement that after a “period of unresponsiveness”, the decision was made to withdraw life support.
“Leeds United are heartbroken to learn of the passing of supporter Colin Westby at the age of 68,” the club wrote. “Colin was a long-standing Season Ticket Holder at the club, attending matches for over 50 years. We will pay tribute to Colin in the 68th minute of our next Premier League fixture with Tottenham Hotspur, on Saturday 7 November.”
Full details of Saturday’s tribute are yet to be confirmed. In the immediate aftermath of the incident, Leeds praised the supporters and stewards who ensured Westby received prompt medical attention. “The club is grateful for the rapid action of our stewards and medical support team,” a statement at the time read.
Tributes have poured in across social media. “Awful news, so sorry to hear — rest easy Colin, thoughts with his family and friends,” one Leeds supporter wrote on X. Another added: “Really sad, sending love, strength and condolences to his family and friends and all those that tried to save him.”
A former colleague also paid his respects: “Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. I worked with Colin for a good few years — enjoyed a pint and a football chat.”
The match Westby attended ended 1-1, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s second-half equaliser earning Leeds a point. Daniel Farke’s side currently sit 11th in the Premier League table with 11 points from nine games, following a 1-0 defeat away to Bournemouth in their most recent outing.
