Grealish dropped from Everton squad again as disciplinary breach punishment continues
Jack Grealish has been left out of Everton's travelling party for Monday's Premier League trip to Newcastle, days after missing the Carabao Cup win over the same opponents as punishment for an unauthorised absence from training.
Jack Grealish has been omitted from Everton’s squad for a second successive match, with the winger’s disciplinary situation unresolved ahead of Monday night’s Premier League visit to St James’ Park.
The 29-year-old was first dropped for Everton’s 3-1 Carabao Cup victory over Newcastle at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Thursday after skipping a training session without authorisation. Manager David Moyes has now chosen to leave him out again for the return trip to Tyneside, opting instead to name two goalkeepers among his substitutes.
It remains unclear whether Grealish’s continued absence reflects an extension of that disciplinary punishment, a fitness concern, or a combination of both. Moyes has not publicly confirmed the reason for the second omission.
Grealish, 29, is in his second loan spell at Everton, having rejoined the club from Manchester City on transfer deadline day. He has made six appearances so far this season without scoring, and is in the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium.
The winger had also missed Everton’s defeat to Arsenal the previous Saturday, though that absence was attributed to illness rather than any disciplinary matter. His return to contention appeared imminent before the training breach changed the situation.
The episode adds an unwanted distraction for Moyes as Everton prepare for a demanding run of fixtures. The club’s decision to field two goalkeepers on the bench against Newcastle rather than include Grealish underlines how seriously the manager is treating the matter.
