Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel is in a stable condition in intensive care after suffering a cardiac arrest on the way to hospital, following a serious collision during Monday’s Segunda División fixture against Andorra at Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez.

De Miguel was struck around the head and chest when Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono rushed out to deal with a long ball and appeared to make contact with his knee. The 30-year-old was left motionless inside the centre circle as teammates from both sides broke down in tears while medical staff attended to him. Owono was seen turning back immediately to check on the stricken forward.

Paramedics resuscitated De Miguel in the ambulance after he went into cardiac arrest during the journey to hospital. Tenerife confirmed he was admitted to the University Hospital of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria and described his condition as “stable despite the severity of his condition,” adding that the hospital’s medical team would provide updates as they became available.

Referee Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz abandoned the match in stoppage time with the score at 2-2, a game that had already been marked by extraordinary drama. Tenerife had led 2-0 through first-half goals from Christian Gomis and Enric Gallego, before Andorra’s Lautaro De Leon pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute — only to be sent off moments later after a skirmish with Tenerife goalkeeper Dani Martin. Martin himself was then dismissed following two rapid yellow cards, and Stefan Golubovic levelled for Andorra before De Miguel’s injury brought proceedings to a halt. Owono’s red card for the foul was the third of the match.

Andorra issued a statement on social media expressing their support: “We want to send all our strength and best wishes to Jesus de Miguel after the serious incident suffered during today’s match. We hope he recovers soon. A very strong hug to the player, his family and Tenerife.”

De Miguel joined Tenerife in 2025 on a three-year deal after the club had been relegated to the third tier of Spanish football. He played a key role in their promotion back to the Segunda División, scoring 11 goals in 29 appearances. The Madrid-born forward had only made his first professional appearance with Castellón in 2024, having spent the majority of his career in the lower reaches of the Spanish football pyramid. Tenerife currently sit four points above Andorra in the Segunda División table.
