Kane expects new Bayern Munich contract 'within days' after Ballon d'Or win
Harry Kane says a contract extension with Bayern Munich is imminent, telling reporters ahead of Tuesday's Champions League trip to Atletico Madrid that key terms have been agreed and only minor details remain.
Harry Kane expects to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich within days, the England captain confirmed at a press conference ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League match at Atletico Madrid — easing speculation that the Ballon d’Or winner could return to the Premier League.
Kane’s current deal, signed when he left Tottenham in the summer of 2023, is due to expire next summer. The prospect of him chasing Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record had fuelled talk of a possible return to England, but the 33-year-old made clear he intends to stay at the Allianz Arena.
“I would say it is more a matter of days,” Kane said. “There has been good conversations over this weekend and today as well. I know I keep saying we are close, but we are extremely close now. A lot of the bigger stuff has been ironed out and we are happy with, but in every contract there is loads of little things that go into it — small details that in the end the lawyers have to thrash out and figure out. So all in all I would say it is more days than weeks.”
Kane won the Ballon d’Or last Monday, becoming the first Englishman to claim the award since Michael Owen in 2001. The honour was built on a remarkable 2024-25 season in which he scored 73 goals for club and country, won two trophies in Germany, and led England to third place at the World Cup.
His return to domestic action after the ceremony was mixed. Kane paraded the trophy in front of the Allianz Arena crowd on Saturday, telling supporters: “I just wanted to say I’m extremely proud to be a FC Bayern Munich player. The support you have shown me since I arrived has been incredible.” He then missed a second-half penalty and struck the post as Bayern drew 2-2 with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
With contract talks now at an advanced stage, Bayern appear set to retain their talisman beyond next summer — removing one of the more intriguing transfer storylines of the coming window before it had fully taken shape.
