Szoboszlai and Munoz could return to boost Liverpool for Arsenal's Anfield visit
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has indicated that Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz both have a chance of featuring against Arsenal on Sunday, having missed three games since the Reds' win at Brentford earlier this month.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has raised the prospect of a double injury boost ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Arsenal at Anfield, saying both Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz “have a chance” of being available.
The pair have been absent since Liverpool’s 2-1 victory at Brentford earlier this month, but Iraola’s side have won all three games in their absence. The manager stopped short of confirming either player would feature. “I think they have a chance,” he said. “But I don’t know for sure if they will be involved or not. We still have two days, so I think they have a chance, yes.”
Not all the injury news was positive for the hosts. Jeremie Frimpong is ruled out until after the November international break, while Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley and Hugo Ekitike remain sidelined with longer-term problems.
Arsenal will also travel to Merseyside with cautious optimism on the fitness front. Mikel Arteta confirmed that Riccardo Calafiori, Declan Rice and Christos Tzolis have all returned to training, though the availability of Noni Madueke remains uncertain. “We don’t know yet,” Arteta said. “We have a training session tomorrow, let’s see if he can complete the full session. After that, we will know if he’s available.”
The fixture carries extra weight given last season’s history between the sides. Arsenal lost at Anfield in the corresponding fixture, with Szoboszlai scoring the only goal from a free-kick. The Gunners ultimately won the title that campaign, while Liverpool finished fifth and parted ways with Arne Slot.
Iraola arrives at the fixture on a five-game winning streak, the last three of which have come at home. The Spaniard has spoken openly about the role Anfield’s atmosphere can play. “At Anfield everyone feels when the team goes for it, when everyone is giving everything,” he said. “The other day against Chelsea, I thought the atmosphere was really, really good. It’s nice to recover and feel these things at home as we have a big advantage over other teams because this atmosphere we can create is special.”
