Luis Enrique wittily dismisses Le Havre's "near-comeback" against Marseille
Questioned about the dramatic Le Havre-OM match (4-3), Luis Enrique ironized about the notion of a comeback, having experienced a historic one with Barcelona against PSG in 2017.
Luis Enrique could not resist the irony. At a press conference, the Paris Saint-Germain coach reacted with a smile to the chaotic scenario of the match between Le Havre and Marseille during Matchday 8 of Ligue 1, won 4-3 by the Marseille side after nearly squandering a four-goal lead.
With Marseille leading 4-0 at the 55th minute, Le Havre AC scored three consecutive goals in the final quarter of an hour, reviving suspense that Marseille supporters would have preferred to avoid. The word “comeback” naturally circulated, and journalists gave Luis Enrique an opening — he who had managed FC Barcelona during the historic 2017 comeback against PSG in the Ligue des Champions.
“Le Havre’s near-comeback against Marseille? I didn’t see the whole match. That wasn’t a comeback, was it? They came back from 4-0 to 4-3. Is that a comeback for you? Almost? Ah… An almost comeback,” the Spaniard said with a wry smile.
The response was praised even from the opposing camp. “For three years we’ve tried to catch him out on Marseille and he remains classy every time. Mr Enrique,” wrote Guillaume Dacquet, a journalist covering the Olympique club, on X, an opinion shared by several Marseille supporters.
Luis Enrique also discussed PSG’s trip to Le Havre, scheduled for Friday evening for Matchday 10 of Ligue 1. “It’s never easy to go and play at Le Havre. They pose problems with their striker up front and their wing-backs. They’re one of the Ligue 1 teams that crosses the most. We must show that we are ready to overcome all of that,” he warned, becoming serious again.
