Ballon d'Or winners Kane and Putellas face defining tests in Der Klassiker and WSL clash
Harry Kane returns to Bundesliga action as Bayern Munich host Borussia Dortmund in a finely balanced Der Klassiker, while Alexia Putellas and London City Lionesses face Manchester City in a pivotal WSL fixture.
Harry Kane and Alexia Putellas collected the Ballon d’Or and Ballon d’Or Féminin respectively on Monday evening, but both are back in competitive action this weekend with significant fixtures awaiting them.
Kane and Bayern host Dortmund in Der Klassiker
Bayern Munich welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Allianz Arena on Saturday, 31 October, with kick-off at 5:30pm GMT / 1:30pm ET. After seven Bundesliga games, both sides have won five and drawn two, making the fixture a genuine early-season statement match — particularly for Dortmund, whose title ambitions could be shaped by the result.
Kane has been in formidable form throughout the 2026/27 campaign, registering 24 goal contributions across 16 appearances for club and country. He also has a remarkable record against Saturday’s opponents, scoring 10 goals in 11 games against Dortmund. Beyond the weekend, Kane is closing in on a historic milestone: he is set to surpass Peter Shilton as England’s all-time record appearance-maker at the next international window.
Putellas faces first major WSL test against Manchester City
Alexia Putellas and London City Lionesses host Manchester City on Sunday in what shapes up as the most demanding fixture of the 32-year-old’s WSL career so far. The Lionesses’ high-profile summer spending has translated into early results — they sit just three points behind City and table-toppers Chelsea after seven games.
Putellas has contributed four goal involvements since her move to England, and her statistical footprint in midfield has been equally impressive: she creates an average of two big chances every three games and ranks in the top 20% for recoveries and possession won in the final third per 90 minutes.
City will present a sterner challenge than anything Putellas has faced in the WSL to date. Andrée Jeglertz’s side will likely deploy a midfield trio of Julia Olme, Hinata Miyazawa and Ella Toone, testing whether the Lionesses’ early-season momentum can hold against one of the division’s strongest squads.
