Barrow’s National League clash with Forest Green Rovers at the Furness Building Society Stadium was abandoned after just 14 minutes on Saturday, with referee Stuart Morland halting proceedings as Storm Boelo rendered the pitch unplayable. The match will need to be replayed in its entirety, starting from 0-0, despite Barrow having led at the time of the stoppage.

Isaac Marriott had given the home side a remarkable start, netting after just two seconds to put Barrow ahead, but standing water continued to accumulate on the surface and conditions deteriorated rapidly following kick-off. Morland had conducted hourly pre-match pitch inspections and initially deemed the playing surface fit, but was left with no choice as the waterlogging worsened.

Barrow AFC released a statement acknowledging the frustration for supporters of both clubs. “The club made every possible effort to ensure the fixture could go ahead, with our ground staff working tirelessly to prepare the pitch and give the game the best possible chance of being played,” it read. The club also thanked fans who had braved the conditions to attend.

The abandonment was particularly costly for travelling Forest Green supporters, who faced a round trip of approximately 300 miles from Nailsworth in Gloucestershire to Barrow in Cumbria. Forest Green’s official account posted a message acknowledging the frustration, wishing supporters safe travels home.

Barrow remain 10th in the National League standings and are due to face Halifax Town on Tuesday. Forest Green sit in 17th place, having won just four of their opening 12 league matches. A new date for the rearranged fixture will be confirmed in due course.
