Deschamps linked with Manchester United, but two managers have already agreed
On sabbatical after 14 years leading France, Didier Deschamps is among the candidates for Manchester United's manager role, where Michael Carrick is under pressure. According to The Telegraph, however, two of the club's three priorities have already given their agreement.
Didier Deschamps is among the candidates for the Manchester United manager position, with the club currently 14th in the Premier League and without a win in five matches. The information, reported by several British media outlets, comes as Michael Carrick faces serious pressure after a catastrophic start to the season.
The Red Devils are going through an alarming period: two consecutive defeats in the Ligue des Champions, against Atlético de Madrid (2-0) and then Como (4-1), and no league wins since victory against Ipswich in late August. Four draws and a defeat to Manchester City later, the pressure on the Old Trafford bench is at its peak.
Deschamps, meanwhile, is taking a sabbatical after leaving the French national team at the end of 14 years in charge. Taking over a club in such a fragile state would represent a challenge of a completely different nature than that of a national team manager — and his profile does not appear to match what Jim Ratcliffe’s management is looking for.
According to The Telegraph, Manchester United’s real priorities are Eddie Howe, Unai Emery and Julian Nagelsmann. More significantly: two of these three managers have already given their agreement to the Manchester executives. Emery, for his part, remains under contract with Aston Villa, which complicates discussions.
Recent midfield signings — Youri Tielemans, Carlos Baleba and Andrey Santos — have not produced the expected effect, illustrating the structural difficulties of a club struggling to regain a coherent playing identity for several seasons. In this context, the Deschamps option appears more as a working hypothesis than as a serious option.
