Schaub brands Silva vs. Wang Cong at UFC 332 'worst main event in MMA history'

Brendan Schaub has branded the UFC 332 main event the worst in MMA history, targeting the decision to book Natalia Silva against Wang Cong for the vacant women’s flyweight title at the Oct. 3 card in Salt Lake City.

The fight was created after Valentina Shevchenko relinquished the belt while recovering from injury. Silva arrives with undeniable credentials — she is 8-0 in the UFC and has won her last 14 fights overall — but Wang is a far less established name at flyweight, carrying just one ranked win on her résumé: a unanimous decision over Tracy Cortez on the early preliminary card of UFC 329 in July.

“It’s a tragedy of a main event,” Schaub said on his YouTube channel. “That is, hands down, no bullshit, no exaggerating, that is the worst main event in mixed martial arts history. Wang Cong should never be mainlining a card. Should sure as f*ck not be fighting for a title shot. That is mind-blowing. There are several other women that are way more well-deserving.”

Schaub went further, questioning whether UFC CEO Dana White could even name three of Wang’s opponents or recall how she won her recent fights. “I guarantee you if you went up to Dana White and go, ‘Dana, I will give you $1 million, name three opponents Wang Cong has fought.’ He could not do it,” Schaub said.

Wang, 34, does carry notable combat sports pedigree. She defeated Shevchenko in a kickboxing match back in 2015 and has won four straight MMA bouts since her only UFC loss, to Gabriella Fernandes. But Schaub’s argument is that a four-fight run — capped by a decision win on a preliminary card — falls well short of the standard required to headline a world title fight.

Schaub also tied his criticism to the UFC’s broader broadcasting arrangement, suggesting the security of a major network deal has reduced pressure on matchmakers to deliver marquee main events. “So they put this great card together and then we’re waiting for this main event,” he said. “They marched the ball all the way down to the 1 and just went, ‘Ah, we’re out. We don’t want to score.’”
