Sancho offered £10k-per-week Getafe deal after £250k wages at Man United
Jadon Sancho, who earned a reported £250,000 per week at Manchester United, has been offered a contract worth just £10,000 per week by La Liga side Getafe as the 26-year-old searches for a new club after his Old Trafford release.
Jadon Sancho has been offered a contract worth around £10,000 per week by Getafe, according to the Telegraph — a fraction of the £250,000 per week he reportedly earned at Manchester United before being released as a free agent this summer.
The Spanish club, currently 15th in La Liga after two wins from their opening nine games, want to sign the 26-year-old winger until the end of the season. Sancho has not ruled out the move but is said to want a meeting with head coach Jose Bordalas before committing to the deal.
Sancho’s time at United amounted to one of English football’s most expensive disappointments. Signed for £73 million in 2021, he managed just three goals and three assists in his debut Premier League season, and six goals and three assists across 26 appearances in 2022/23. A loan return to Borussia Dortmund — where he had thrived in the Bundesliga during his formative years — failed to revive his form.
A subsequent loan to Chelsea in 2024/25 fared no better. The west London club held a £25 million obligation to sign him permanently but declined, instead paying a £5 million penalty to send him back to Manchester. A further season-long loan to Aston Villa followed, though Villa had no interest in making the arrangement permanent.
United ultimately cut ties with Sancho at the end of last season, leaving him without a club heading into the current campaign.
Getafe’s interest comes amid turbulence at the Madrid-based club. Bordalas, appointed in 2023, has publicly criticised the club’s hierarchy over a lack of squad depth. “I feel deceived because what has been promised year after year hasn’t been fulfilled,” he told the media. “I’m angry.” The manager has also raised concerns about his squad’s ability to compete across La Liga and Conference League fixtures.
