AS Saint-Etienne have confirmed the arrival of Aron Csongvai, a 25-year-old defensive midfielder from AIK Stockholm. The Hungarian international has signed a four-year contract, bringing the Greens' summer signings to five.
AS Saint-Etienne have officially confirmed the signing of Aron Csongvai, a 25-year-old defensive midfielder from AIK Stockholm, on a four-year deal. It is the fifth summer signing for the Forez club, now managed by Scotsman Ian Cathro.
Csongvai arrives in Ligue 1 after a full season in Sweden, where he compiled four goals and four assists under AIK’s colours. The player also has two caps with the Hungarian national team, giving him a rare international profile for a summer recruitment in this position.
Sports director Loïc Perrin justified the club’s choice in the official statement: “Aron is a defensive midfielder profile who will bring us power and impact in this important area.” A statement that underscores Saint-Etienne’s desire to strengthen midfield following their promotion back to the top division.
The player himself expressed ambitions for rapid integration: “I think I’m a team player who wants to quickly build connections on and off the pitch.”
Csongvai joins Sohaib Naïr, Jakob Breum, Mamour Ndiaye and Thierno Ballo in the squad assembled by Saint-Etienne this summer. Five arrivals in a matter of weeks reflect an ambitious transfer window for a club that must confirm its place among French football’s elite.
