Tolisso scores brace to guide Lyon to third consecutive warm-up win
Lyon defeated Servette Geneva 2-1 on Wednesday thanks to a brace from Corentin Tolisso, including a penalty. It was the Gones' third consecutive friendly victory, despite Paulo Fonseca's reservations about the quality of play.
Lyon concluded their third warm-up match with a victory, beating Servette Geneva 2-1 on Wednesday, thanks to a brace from Corentin Tolisso, including a penalty goal.
The Rhône captain, whose contract extension was recently made official, made the difference in a match played in hybrid mode, with many young players and several players set to leave the club. “It’s always good for confidence,” he said after the match.
Paulo Fonseca, meanwhile, did not hide his disappointment despite the result. “The match wasn’t good,” complained the Lyon manager. “The team worked hard over the last two days. It’s a match I’ll forget. The first half especially, which was a bit slow in terms of circulation, intensity, speed.”
Lyon had previously dominated Mâcon (National 2) 5-2, then St. Gallen 6-3. Three victories in as many outings, then, before a series of tougher tests awaits the Gones.
Lyon will head to a training camp in Bavaria in early July, with two friendlies scheduled against Slavia Prague on July 18 and Wolfsburg on July 25. A final test against Real Betis is planned for July 29 before the club enters the preliminary rounds of the Ligue des Champions at the start of August.
