Russell reclaims second in F1 standings as Norris wins Dutch GP and Hamilton slips back
George Russell has retaken second place in the 2026 Formula 1 drivers' championship from Lewis Hamilton after the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, where Lando Norris claimed victory. Kimi Antonelli remains top despite Mercedes team orders favouring the Italian over Russell.
George Russell has moved back above Lewis Hamilton in the 2026 Formula 1 drivers’ standings following the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, with Lando Norris taking the race win to make the biggest points gain of the weekend.
Antonelli and Russell finished the Zandvoort weekend having scored an identical number of points across the sprint format, effectively cancelling each other out in the championship despite Mercedes deploying team orders that favoured the Italian. As a result, Antonelli holds onto top spot in the drivers’ standings, while Russell edges Hamilton back down to third.
Norris’s victory was the headline result of the 12th round of the season, with the McLaren driver capitalising on a race that saw Max Verstappen crash out. The win represents a significant haul for Norris in the championship picture.
Further down the order, Fernando Alonso took ninth place to add two more points to Aston Martin’s constructors’ tally — a modest but welcome return following a single point from Monaco. Audi also added two points to their constructors’ total.
The result leaves the 2026 championship battle tightly contested at the top, with Antonelli, Russell, and Hamilton separated by the fine margins that the sprint-weekend format can both create and erase in a single afternoon.
