Rosas Jr. submits Covington in 40 seconds on one day's notice at Hype FC
Raul Rosas Jr. stepped in as a last-minute replacement at Hype FC in Rome on Tuesday, taking Colby Covington's back and finishing him with a rear-naked choke in just 40 seconds — Covington's first loss since leaving the UFC in 2024.
Raul Rosas Jr. submitted Colby Covington in 40 seconds at Hype FC’s submission-grappling event on Tuesday at Pala Pellicone in Rome, Italy, stepping in on just one day’s notice to replace a withdrawn Dillon Danis.
Danis had been scheduled to headline the card against Covington but pulled out the day before the match for undisclosed reasons. Rosas Jr., who was already attending the Hype FC press conference, volunteered to take his place. The 19-year-old wasted no time: he shot for a takedown on his first attempt, immediately climbed to Covington’s back, and sank in a rear-naked choke that forced the tap at the 40-second mark.
The result hands Covington his first defeat since his final UFC appearance in 2024. Since leaving the promotion, “Chaos” had compiled a five-fight winning streak under the Real American Freestyle (RAF) banner, with victories over Danis, Luke Rockhold, Chris Weidman, Arman Tsarukyan, and Belal Muhammad. The loss arrives at a delicate moment: Covington is scheduled to face Khamzat Chimaev at RAF Abu Dhabi on November 14.
For Rosas Jr., the performance adds momentum ahead of his own RAF debut. “El Niño Problema” is set to face Clay Guida at RAF 15 on November 28.
