Christian Lee targets Ruotolo's 2-0 MMA record ahead of One Championship lightweight title fight
Reigning One Championship lightweight champion Christian Lee says Tye Ruotolo's two-fight MMA record leaves him dangerously untested ahead of their title bout at One Friday Fights 177 on 6 November in Bangkok, Thailand.
Christian Lee has set his sights firmly on Tye Ruotolo’s limited MMA experience as the two prepare to meet for the One Championship lightweight title at One Friday Fights 177 on 6 November in Bangkok, Thailand. The reigning two-division champion believes that however polished Ruotolo’s grappling credentials may be, nothing in his background has prepared him for a five-round MMA war.
“Tye’s a great grappler. He’s got good forward pressure, he’s patient, and he scrambles well,” Lee said in a pre-fight interview. “Weaknesses? It’s the fact that he’s 2-0. You can say whatever you want, that you’ve had all that grappling experience, but MMA is different.”
Ruotolo arrives with a perfect but brief professional MMA record, and Lee is convinced that brevity will tell. “He’s never stepped in there and fought five rounds. He hasn’t been in any wars yet. And I think that his lack of experience is gonna be one of his biggest weaknesses going into this match,” Lee added.
The matchup carries a personal dimension for the champion. Ruotolo submitted Lee’s younger brother, Adrian Lee, via rear-naked choke at One Fight Night 35 in September 2025 — a result Christian acknowledges as extra motivation, even as he insists there is no ill will toward his challenger.
“I just plan on exposing this guy,” Lee said. “I think that he’s a very good grappler, but you can’t cheat the experience that he hasn’t faced yet.”
Lee enters the contest in form, having stopped Alibeg Rasulov by TKO in the second round at One 173 in November 2025. He expects the title defence to follow a similar pattern of sustained pressure rather than an early finish.
“I’m expecting to just frustrate him, to break his will over the course of five rounds,” Lee said. “I don’t think that he’s gonna have it in him to last all five rounds.”
For Ruotolo, the fight represents a steep step up — from submission grappling stardom to a championship MMA contest against one of the promotion’s most decorated fighters. Whether his grappling pedigree translates under the full demands of MMA will be the central question when the two meet in Bangkok.
