Rolando Dy retained his BKB super welterweight world championship with a dominant third-round stoppage of Scott McHugh at BKB 60 on Saturday at Utilita Arena Newcastle — the promotion’s first event in the city. Dy dropped McHugh four times in total before the challenger’s corner ended the contest.

After a competitive opening round, Dy (7-1, 6 KOs) turned the fight decisively in the second, sending the five-time BKB champion McHugh (16-6, 6 KOs) to the canvas three times. McHugh showed considerable resilience to survive the round, but a fourth knockdown early in the third left his corner with no choice but to throw in the towel.

Dy arrived at the bout in strong form, having previously stopped former two-division boxing world champion Paulie Malignaggi in his last outing.

Elsewhere on the BKB 60 card, David Winiarski earned a first-round knockout of Geraint Goodridge, and Brian Hyslop claimed a split decision over former boxing world champion Joseph Diaz Jr.

Adel Altamimi produced a notable comeback, recovering from two first-round knockdowns to stop Tom Mowbray in the second round, while Aaron Ashton defeated Mark O’Neill by technical knockout.

Mick Kelly stopped Jon Telfer after four rounds, Dec Spelman earned a first-round technical knockout over Marley Churcher, and Nathan Conroy halted previously unbeaten Liam Teruel in the opening round to round out the card.
