Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and Bayern circle as Man Utd teen JJ Gabriel seeks exit

Manchester United are fighting to retain 15-year-old academy forward JJ Gabriel after the teenager requested to cancel his registration at the club, triggering reported interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

Gabriel has yet to make his senior competitive debut but trained regularly with the first team after scoring 26 goals in 29 games for United’s U18s last season. He also netted a hat-trick for the club’s youth side in the UEFA Youth League against Sabah, and had appeared to be on a clear pathway toward the first team.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the situation reportedly escalated after Gabriel was not included on United’s ‘A’ list for their Champions League squad, which prevented him from featuring in the senior side’s win over Sabah. United have not yet accepted his request to be released and believe the situation remains resolvable.

The key complication is Gabriel’s eligibility for a European passport through his father, Joe O’Cearuill, who earned international caps for the Republic of Ireland. Unlike British players, who must wait until the age of 18 to move abroad, Gabriel could potentially join a European club once he turns 16 on 6 October. Premier League rules prohibit under-17 players from signing professional contracts, and any international move would require FIFA approval.

United are understood to be examining whether they can prevent a move abroad, though the regulatory picture remains unclear. The Athletic reports that Real Madrid have already scouted Gabriel, with Barcelona, PSG and Bayern Munich also said to be interested in the forward.

United remain in dialogue with Gabriel’s camp and have not given up hope of keeping him at the club, but the window to resolve the dispute is narrowing ahead of his 16th birthday.
