Real Betis and Hull City near €8m deal for academy winger Pablo García

Real Betis and Hull City are edging toward a transfer agreement for academy winger Pablo García, with reports suggesting the deal could exceed €8 million depending on how the fee structure is resolved.

Hull’s interest in the 20-year-old is not new. The newly promoted Premier League club had already made its intentions known to García’s camp the previous week, while other clubs had shown interest over the summer without advancing to formal talks, according to El Correo Web. Negotiations intensified after Hull submitted a concrete proposal, bringing the two clubs closer in their positions.

The fee structure remains the central sticking point. El Correo Web initially reported a deal worth close to €5 million in fixed terms plus variables. A subsequent report from Mundo Betis outlined a more complex arrangement: Betis would sell 50 per cent of García’s rights for €5 million, with an obligation for Hull to purchase a further 20 per cent for €3 million, plus additional bonuses that could push the total higher. As of 25 August, Fútbol Fantasy reported that Betis had communicated its conditions to Hull and was awaiting a response, noting the operation had slowed due to differences between the clubs.

Beyond the headline fee, Betis are keen to retain a meaningful percentage of García’s future sale rights. Because the winger completed his entire development at the club’s Heliópolis academy, any transfer would represent a significant capital gain, and a sell-on clause would allow Betis to benefit further if García moves on again.

García caught the eye during Manuel Pellegrini’s preseason, scoring three goals and registering an assist. Limited first-team involvement last season and strong competition within the squad have made it difficult for him to establish himself in Seville, making a move to England an attractive proposition for his development.

Hull, who secured promotion to the Premier League, have identified García as part of a broader strategy to recruit young talent with room to grow at the top level. Despite the progress in talks, no agreement had been reached at the time of the latest reports, and García continued to train under Pellegrini, travelling with the Betis squad for their La Liga fixture against Valencia at Mestalla. Any departure remains contingent on the two clubs bridging their remaining differences.
