Rashford swaps No. 10 for No. 14 among nine Manchester United squad number changes for 2026/27
Marcus Rashford has moved from No. 10 to No. 14 following his return from a loan spell at Barcelona, while goalkeeper Senne Lammens inherits the No. 1 shirt. Seven academy players have also received lower numbers ahead of the new Premier League season.
Marcus Rashford will wear No. 14 at Manchester United next season after ceding the No. 10 shirt to summer signing Matheus Cunha, with eight other players also assigned new squad numbers ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.
Rashford, who wore No. 14 during his loan spell at Barcelona, cited Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry — who made the number iconic during his club career — as the inspiration behind his choice. The number has previous history at Old Trafford too, having been worn by Javier Hernandez and Andrei Kanchelskis.
In goal, Senne Lammens steps up from No. 31 to claim the No. 1 jersey vacated by Altay Bayindir, who has joined Celta Vigo on loan. The Belgian goalkeeper inherits a shirt associated with two of the club’s greatest-ever keepers in Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar, and the move represents a clear statement of intent from United’s coaching staff about his standing as first choice.
Seven academy players have also been handed lower squad numbers, a traditional marker of progression through the ranks at Old Trafford. Among them is JJ Gabriel, a highly-rated 15-year-old who moves from No. 95 to No. 77. The full list of academy reassignments is as follows: Shea Lacey (No. 61 to No. 46), Ethan Williams (No. 56 to No. 53), Jaydan Kamason (No. 66 to No. 61), Jacob Devaney (No. 67 to No. 62), Jim Thwaites (No. 77 to No. 63), Daniel Armer (No. 75 to No. 69), and Gabriel (No. 95 to No. 77).
While the changes for the younger players are largely symbolic, each brings them a step closer to first-team matchday involvement. For Rashford, the new number arrives at a pivotal moment — the 27-year-old returns to United needing to re-establish himself as a regular starter after a difficult 18 months that led to his mid-season departure for the Camp Nou.
