Curtis Jones set for £30m Inter Milan exit as Gakpo's £70m Spurs move edges closer
Liverpool are closing in on two significant departures before the September 1 deadline. Curtis Jones has reportedly had a £30m fee agreed with Inter Milan, while Cody Gakpo's potential £70m switch to Tottenham remains firmly on the table.
Liverpool are moving closer to a double exit before the summer transfer window closes on September 1, with Curtis Jones heading to Inter Milan for £30m and Cody Gakpo’s £70m move to Tottenham still very much alive.
Curtis Jones agrees Inter Milan move
Jones’ 16-year association with Liverpool appears to be drawing to a close. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports that the Reds have agreed a £30m (€35m) fee with the Serie A champions for the 25-year-old midfielder, with personal terms between Jones and Inter already settled and a medical set to be arranged.
Inter had pursued Jones since deadline day in January, but two previous bids were rejected — the most recent a £21.7m offer in June. The Italian club reignited their interest this summer and have now finally struck an agreement at a significantly higher price.
Should the deal be completed, Jones will leave Anfield having made 228 appearances, scoring 22 goals and contributing 25 assists. He departs with six major honours, including two Premier League titles.
Gakpo’s Tottenham switch still realistic
Cody Gakpo’s potential move to Tottenham has been a recurring storyline throughout the summer, and Romano insists the deal remains very realistic despite doubts over whether it could be completed so late in the window.
Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi is keen to strengthen his left-wing options with the Dutch international, who is valued at around £70m. Romano confirmed that Tottenham remain in active negotiations and that personal terms would not be an obstacle, with Gakpo open to the move.
However, Liverpool’s position is clear: they will not sanction Gakpo’s departure unless they can bring in two forwards as replacements. That condition means the deal’s completion hinges as much on Liverpool’s inbound activity as on the negotiations with Spurs.
Iraola’s squad taking shape
New Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has so far made limited changes since taking charge, bringing in only Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo ahead of Sunday’s Premier League opener against Newcastle United. The potential exits of Jones and Gakpo would represent the most significant squad turnover of the window and could accelerate further recruitment before the deadline.
