Rashford rejects Fenerbahce and commits to Man Utd future under Michael Carrick

Marcus Rashford has rejected an approach from Fenerbahce and is now committed to staying at Manchester United for the upcoming season, ending months of uncertainty over the England forward’s future at Old Trafford.

Rashford entered the summer window intent on securing a permanent move to Barcelona, where he had enjoyed a productive loan spell. However, Barcelona opted against triggering the £26 million purchase option and instead signed Anthony Gordon, leaving Rashford without a clear destination. His £325,000-a-week wages subsequently deterred other potential suitors, and United have since reintegrated him into the squad.

With United unwilling to sell to a Premier League rival, Turkish clubs emerged as one of the few realistic options. Galatasaray were linked, and Fenerbahce — who have qualified for the Champions League — also registered interest. According to The Times, Rashford has now closed the door on the Istanbul club, showing no appetite for a move to Turkey.

Carrick, who handed Rashford a substitute appearance in United’s opening-weekend defeat at Hull City — replacing Patrick Dorgu on the left wing — has been encouraged by what he has seen in training. The 28-year-old is now in line to make his first appearance at Old Trafford since December 2024 when United host Ipswich on Sunday.

“It’s been pretty obvious since Marcus came back training with Kobbie [Mainoo] and Licha [Martinez] pretty much in Dublin that he’s come back fantastically well,” Carrick said last week. “He’s enjoying his football, he looks fit, he looks sharp, he looks strong, he looks ready to play football. So I’ve been delighted with him since he’s came back.”

Rashford’s contract runs until June 2028. He has contributed 138 goals and 79 assists across 427 appearances for his boyhood club and will feature in the Champions League this season after United finished third in the Premier League in 2025/26.

Elsewhere in United’s transfer activity, the club is working to move Joshua Zirkzee on. Fiorentina are interested in the Dutch striker on loan, reportedly willing to pay a £4.3 million loan fee, with United pushing to include a £21.5 million obligation to buy.
