PSG warns Dani: «No holidays and no early retirement»

Paris Saint-Germain has sent a warning message to Lucas Dani, whose early performances since his return to the club this summer have not convinced the coaching staff. According to information reported by specialist media, a club official has called on the left-back to significantly improve his performance.

Dani joined the Parisian club to serve as a backup to Nuno Mendes, but he has endured a difficult start to the season. He struggled in the Trophée des Champions against Lens, was benched against Rennes before coming off the bench again in the Lille match (2-2) last Friday. Coach Luis Enrique preferred midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery on the left wing in the absence of suspended Nuno Mendes. Dani came on in the second half but was not spared criticism over the second goal scored by Dylan Bakua.

The tone of the club official was very clear: «He needs to wake up. We accepted that he came to be number 2, fine, but he’s not on holiday or in early retirement. We’re not saying that’s the case, but we won’t accept it. He has to fight and try to be better than Nuno because Nuno won’t play every match. He has to battle, and that’s also part of his adaptation phase».

Dani’s entourage wanted to respond firmly to this criticism. Those close to him confirmed that Dani is fully committed: «There is no complacency, he will fight to get playing time and full matches». For their part, the club clarified that this approach reflects an adopted management philosophy: «The coach likes to stir up enthusiasm and break routine. We don’t want the team to sleep on its success».

Dani returned to Paris Saint-Germain after thirteen years away, and he will have to improve quickly to justify his place in a team where competition leaves no room for complacency.
